Account deletion

You can delete your Super Engineer account yourself at any time. Open Settings in the app, or on the website, go to Settings and then Security, and choose Delete Account.

You can also start from app.superengineer.app/delete-account. We will ask you to prove it is you first.  If you own a workspace that other people are still in, remove them before you delete, so their access does not disappear without warning.

The 30 day widow - what we erase.  Your chats and everything in them, what the assistant had remembered about you, your own notes and their attachments, your saved sites and equipment, your settings, your private tips, and the photos you uploaded for yourself. Your sign in stops existing and your devices are unlinked. If you subscribe through us on the web, that subscription runs to the end of the 30 days and is cancelled when the erasure happens. A note you shared into a workspace is removed with your account, although anything attached to it stays with the workspace.

What we keep and why.  Anything you shared with the community stays, because other engineers rely on it, and it is no longer shown under your name. We change the byline, not the words: anything you typed inside a tip stays exactly as you wrote it, and so does anything written inside a document or a photo you uploaded. A manual you shared with the community stays as well, along with the search index built from it. If you want a specific contribution taken down, ask us before you delete your account.

Documents you uploaded into a workspace shared with other people stay with that workspace, because they belong to the team rather than to you. A workspace nobody else is in is deleted along with your account, unless a seat was ever bought in it, because we have to keep that payment record.

Payment and tax records are kept for at least six years, because UK law requires it. That includes records held by Stripe, who process our card payments, and by RevenueCat and the app stores if you subscribed on a phone. Those are their records of a transaction and are not ours to erase.

In place of your account we keep one row holding no name, no email address, no phone number and no password, alongside those payment records and any moderation record about content that stayed. That row still carries the reference numbers Stripe and RevenueCat use, because those are the handles on the payment records we have to keep, so it identifies you to them even though it no longer does to us.

Backups.  We do not rewrite our backups. Copies of older data remain in them until they expire, and they are not used to serve anyone.

Your email address.  Once the erasure has run, the address is free to be used for a new account. That new account starts empty and inherits nothing.
